I recently read Letters of Note : Space and was thrilled to find this one recently。 A collection of correspondence from all walks of life and from different times。 It is a wonderful book to dip in and out of which I have started to do， more to come not this fascinating read！

A voyeuristic guilty pleasure delving into some of the most intimate and most important correspondence in recent human history。 Very well compiled and edited。 The preface to each letter is succinct and the content primes the reader for the actual letter which makes it even more enjoyable。

Niesamowita książka， wspaniałe odkrycie！ Ile ciepła， gniewu， miłości， nienawiści przechowywanych na skrawku papieru i w resztkach wyschniętego atramentu można odkryć w listach sprzed lat。 Ta książka była dla mnie prawdziwym odkryciem i poruszyła do głębi。Podczas jednej z podróży do Niemiec， zatrzymaliśmy się na kilka dni w Bambergu – bawarskim miasteczku， które po raz pierwszy odwiedziłam ponad 10 lat temu i do którego mam ogromny sentyment。Tradycyjnie już skorzystaliśmy z możliwości noclegu „u Niesamowita książka， wspaniałe odkrycie！ Ile ciepła， gniewu， miłości， nienawiści przechowywanych na skrawku papieru i w resztkach wyschniętego atramentu można odkryć w listach sprzed lat。 Ta książka była dla mnie prawdziwym odkryciem i poruszyła do głębi。Podczas jednej z podróży do Niemiec， zatrzymaliśmy się na kilka dni w Bambergu – bawarskim miasteczku， które po raz pierwszy odwiedziłam ponad 10 lat temu i do którego mam ogromny sentyment。Tradycyjnie już skorzystaliśmy z możliwości noclegu „u lokalsów” i poznaliśmy Rosę – nauczycielkę niemieckiego i przewodniczkę po Włoszech， spłacającą kredyt na uroczy domek w dzikich chaszczach， który nazywała ogrodem。 Zakochałam się w tym domu。 Już przy pierwszej nocnej Polaków i Niemców rozmowie okazało się， że Rosa uczy niemieckiego nieletnich uchodźców， którzy przybyli do Europy bez opiekunów。 Jej doświadczenia były impulsem， żeby na oścież otworzyć klapki nabożnego lęku przed nieznanym na oczach i stały się jednym z wielkich objawień naszej podróży。Drugim takim objawieniem， doznanym chłodnego i deszczowego wieczoru była jedna z książek wyszperanych w zbiorach Rosy。 Leżała na ciężkim regale tuż obok portretu babki。 Letters of Note。 Dom Rosy był piękny， a pogoda nie zachęcała do tego， by się z nim rozstawać i tak rozpoczęło się powolne zanurzanie w listy z przeszłości。Letters of Note to zbiór 125 najbardziej inspirujących， poruszających i odkrywczych listów różnych nadawców i adresatów。 Listów， które kształtowały historię narodów， ale i takich， które były tylko cichą， osobistą wypowiedzią nie wiele znaczących ludzi， mimowolnie uwikłanych w chaos dziejów， na burzliwe wydarzenia swoich czasów。 Znajdziecie tu listy Micka Jaggera do Andy’ego Warhola， Elżbiety II do prezydenta Eisenhowera， czy niesamowicie poruszający ostatni list chorej na depresję Virginii Woolf do swojego męża。 Wszystkie listy są opatrzone odpowiednim wstępem z opisem postaci nadawcy i adresata oraz podaniem daty i okoliczności powstania listu。Te teksty są niesamowite。 Otwierają drzwi do innego świata， świata emocji i wewnętrznych bojów ludzi， co do których sądziliśmy， że są zupełnie bez serca i pozbawieni skrupułów。 Pokazują podręcznikowych bohaterów， którzy dotąd tylko spoglądali na nas ze spiżowych posągów， jako ludzi z krwi i kości， a związane z nimi opowieści jako pełne odcieni szarości。 Piszą w ten sposób na nowo czarno-białe dotąd historie。Na dobry początek przygody z listami z przeszłości znalazłam dla Was list Rattanbai ‚Ruttie’ Petit， czyli Maryam Jinnah， 18-letniej dziewczyny， która przeszła na islam i została żoną 24 lata starszego od siebie mężczyzny – Muhammada Aliego Jinnah， późniejszego twórcy państwa Pakistan。 Jak podaje wstęp do listu， pierwszy okres małżeństwa pary były czasem arkadii， jednak wkrótce Muhammad został porwany w wir walki politycznej。 List， do którego link znajdziecie poniżej，Maryam napisała podczas pobytu w szpitalu w Marsylii， gdzie miała poddać się leczeniu nowotworu。 Muhammad Jinnah wygrał swoją walkę i przyczynił się do powstania niezależnego państwa Pakistan。 Maryam przegrała z rakiem i wkrótce zmarła。 Ten list był ostatnim， jaki wysłała do męża， który z czasem stał się dla niej zupełnie obcą osobą。 。。。more
